What Makes Change Hard For You?

Hello, my friends!

I hope you had a fantastic weekend!  I am going to admit that I am getting giddy right now because my book Exorcising Your Excuses was just released, and I am thrilled that it will be available to help people better their lives.

As a Holistic Lifestyle Coach, I am privileged to teach personal development in multiple aspects of life. Based on over 15 years of experience, I have come to a very prominent conclusion:  CHANGE IS HARD!  Do I have an amen?  To give you an example, when I ask somebody to change their dietary patterns, I am almost always met with direct or indirect resistance.  And believe me, I get it on a personal level!  Change IS HARD!  Many people tell me, “Griff, I wish change was as easy for me as it is for you.”

What they don’t know is that change IS hard for me, but I have learned and implemented some very specific strategies to help me change for the better.  The problem with change is that we associate it with PAIN.  After all, who wants to bring more pain into their lives?

“And for You Sir?  Would You Prefer Pain Or Pleasure?”

One of the core principles that I discuss in my book is associating change with PLEASURE.  This may sound idealistic, but I can assure you that this is the ONLY way that you will ever make long-term change.  “Why,” you ask?  Because your nervous system is designed to work in this way. In fact, it is what ensures the survival of our species.  So, if you have ever asked yourself why you can’t change, you need look no further than your perception of change. Does the thought of change bring you pleasure or does it bring you pain?

You may be asking at this point, “So how on earth do I begin associating change with pleasure?”  Glad you asked.  The first step is to begin to focus on what change with GIVE to you rather than take away.  Most of us begin to think of what we will lose when we are “forced” to change.  “Oh man, there goes my sweet treats…am I just supposed to eat rabbit food from here on out”.  This kind of thinking is rooted in LACK and will therefore give you pain.

What if you were to simply switch your thinking just a little.  For example, let’s say you replace your negative internal dialogue with the following, “I love the taste of healthy food, and I am excited to see how I look when I lose 50 lbs. Bring it on!”  One of these statements is painful and hard, and the other is pleasurable and light.  One will ensure your continual progress, and the other will consign you to a state of stagnancy.  The choice is yours, my friend, and the results are staggering.

This is what my book is all about: Showing that what appears to be hard is actually very simple.  I even break it down for you in a simple-to-use 60-day implementation plan, and I hope that it will truly help you heal your mind, your body, and your soul.  I have written it as a labor of love, and I am so happy to share it with the world!  I will have a link for you next week if you are interested.

Have a great day my friends and remember . . .

Life is Good!
