Hello, my friends! I hope you are treating life well! Did you know that over seventy percent of all the food that Americans eat is PROCESSED? What does this mean? Essentially, it means that we take a whole, natural food and we slice it, dice it, strip it, color it, preserve it, “add to it” (additive), and flavor it with harmful substances, some of which are banned in numerous countries.
Processing occurs on a spectrum. To illustrate this point, I want you to imagine a spectrum. On the right of that spectrum, you have Heaven, and on the left you have Hell. In between are the many shades of gray that lead to either black (Hell) or white (Heaven). Heaven represents the EARTH and all of the foods that Mother Earth provides for us, and Hell represents all of the processed foods that we continue to consume at alarming rates.
On the far right side of the spectrum (Heaven), you have whole, natural foods that come directly from the earth. Examples would be whole fruits and veggies, roots, and grains. So, for example, where would 100% whole grain bread fit on our spectrum?
Being “whole grain” means that all four parts of the grain are in tact and unmodified by man. Essentially, it was taken from the wheat field and processed minimally into dough that would hold together and make a slice of bread. This particular example would be VERY close to Heaven because it is not heavily processed, unless you consider that it is most likely genetically modified (GMO), but, for the scope of this article, we will keep it simple. If we take it one step further on the spectrum of processed foods, it would take you into the middle and closer to food Hell! Proceed to white bread, and you will for sure be burning in food Hell!
The bottom line is this: Consume whole, natural, and unprocessed foods to stay away from food Hell! If it does not come from the earth and has an ingredients list 10 feet tall, you are asking for trouble! Think of it this way. When is the last time that you went out to your garden and picked a candy bar or a piece of white bread? The 100% piece of whole grain bread is MUCH closer to that garden (or wheat field) than is the white piece of bread. Ask yourself, “are you burning in nutrition hell?”
We are not intended to eat processed food. Our body resents and rejects it in the form of progressive weight gain, disease, inflammation, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, and many more ailments that are too lengthy to mention here. Do yourself a favor, my friend, and eat unprocessed, whole, natural foods for your lifelong health! Life is good, so be good to it!
