Eating On The Go May Fuel Food Addiction…

One of the nice things about this whole Corona thing is that it has forced us to slow down.

Admit it…doesn’t it feel good?

We have been able to have real conversations with our friends and family without checking our watches or phones every 2 minutes or feeling pressured to be somewhere.

Another pleasant “side effect” is that we don’ have to eat and run so much!

And this is bigger than you think…

Take sugar or food addiction as an example.

When you eat on the go your body activates a part of your nervous system called the Sympathetic Nervous System whose job it is to make sure that you are on high alert. It does so by helping you absorb glucose as blood sugar. So of you are eating on the run and you are under stress your body literally thinks that you are under threat to one degree or another.

When you are under threat your body needs fuel and you will quickly take in as much glucose as possible from your diet creating a huge upsurge of glucose absorption.

The downside of this is that you then get a blood sugar CRASH which makes you want MORE SUGAR OR MORE CARBS and the cycle becomes a viscous one.

YOUR SOLUTION is to eat in peace!

That’s right! Take a lesson from our old “Cousin Corona” and allow yourself to relax and rest while you eat. Try watching comedy, or reading something that you like, or have a pleasant conversation with a friend.

This will help the other part of your nervous system known as the Parasympathetic Nervous System help you digest your food better and absorb more nutrients and prevent the blood sugar spikes that drive overeating and food addiction.

Well there you have it my friends, I hope that this helps you understand why eating on the fly is not all that it is cracked up to be. Trust me…you will be more cool if you don’t! 😉
