I can’t tell you how many times I have been asked this question…
“Griff why do you turn out the lights in the gym and why don’t you wear shoes?”
If you know me at all you know that I am WEIRD!
But believe it or not I do have a method to my madness.
I am committed to my optimal health and wellness and I am also committed to yours, regardless of whether I seem weird on the surface or not.
So what does me turning out the lights at the gym and wearing no shoes have to do with health and wellness?

I started going down a rabbit hole about artificial lighting and “grounding” about 3 years ago and I have learned a lot about the health consequences of living under artificial light and not grounding with the earth.
Sure, call me a hippie (I consider it a compliment), but now science is really starting to back up the dangers of high exposure to artificial light and not having contact with the earth’s surface.
I have been told that turning off the lights and not wearing shoes in my own gym set’s a bad tone and is unprofessional. And just so you know, clients ALWAYS have final say when it comes to having the lights on, but if the collective preference is neutral I will always opt for the health benefits of natural lighting each and every time.
And the cool thing is that i have actually had many clients tell me that they feel more energy and that they feel less stressed in the natural lighting.
There is a scientific reason for this.
